Knud L Rasmussen
Slesvigsgade 36
8800 Viborg
Denmark
Age 52. Married (My wife is german, "black" - interesting "product" of 2. worldwar, and employed with social welfare). Son and daughter (25 and 23). My son have just begun working after graduating in economics and my daughter is bachelor in "information" and will graduate in 2 years (information, media and design). Though i partly neglected their needs when they were children because i worked day and night, they have grown up to kind, human people. And they don't hate me!
In the sixties i studied pure math for 3 years (i'm still a "math-freak"). I didn't finish with a degree, because, as Bob (CH) wrote, then IT happened (and 68 wasn't my best study-year). I started developing IT-systems (mainframe). Took a degree from a Business School in management and organisation (in my "free" time). I have now been IT manager (head of the IT-department) for about 15 years. It's in public service - in Denmark we call it "amt". That's a sort of county.
The "Viborg amt" administer/plan some of the infrastructure for a region (roads, public transport, environment, helth care, hospitals, handicap-institutions, high schools and other "middle" education centers). Budget about 500 mill.$ - 8.000 employees. I could talk/write long about this - because it's part of the danish/scandinavian democracy-model. I am not going to. You would be bored stiff. If not already. But i wrote it, so you could understand that i spend most of my working-day arguing (sometimes quarelling) with other people. Next time (in few years i hope) they are going to have an IT-manager, they should engage a psychologist. The point is, IT-implementation/decisions often is more psychological than it is technical decided. Now you are bored again! I'll finish the subject by telling you, that i'm very happy in my job(really). If i should have another job i would probably do like Bob (CH). I'm very interested in the Palm(Pilot) for example (i insist on being a supporter on this machine - to keep my feets on the ground)
My interests, besides biking, are badminton, chess, math and playing the piano (i only play for friends - and only when i'm half-drunk). I also read a book/novel now and then (just now "The Human Spirit"). I'm also very interested in Alfa Romeo-cars (but at this time i don't own one).
I bought my Savage new this year and have now about 3.000 miles on it. After not been riding for about 30 years i was curiuos if it would be as exciting as i rembered it was in my youth. It is! This forum helped me a lot to choose the Savage. I certainly haven't regretted.I find the Savage has a good price/performance relation. I love its simplicity. I enjoy every time (and that's often) i take a ride. I sometimes ride a Suzuki SV650 - but the Savage gives me much more fun. I have never owned a bike before - only a Lambretta (scooter). No one else in my (nearest) family have a bike - and my wife will not ride with me (yet?). When i feel a certain restlessness, i know it's because the weather is for biking. Unfortunately that feeling sometime happens when i'm working. Well, i have a relatively free job.... I've also found that extremely many people are interested in bikes - but also that nearly all of them are scared (either for accidents - or their wife/husband). Sometimes i ride to my work - 700 meters! Strangely enough no one find this odd.
Besides i find this forum, you guys that is, very kind, humourous, comprahensive and informative. With other word(s) - human. If it should happen i offend someone it is not deliberately. Should i be a little cutting it is probably because i've just come home from work - or because of my bad english.
I hope the good "sound" of the forum will last for some time.
Knud
P.S.: If you are interested in Denmark you can find something under "clothing" also something more about me.
